The final episode of the Harry Potter series is coming this Summer and the trailer is finally out. Watching it makes me wonder if this could be the finest continuous film series ever? Trilogies aside; Lord of the Rings, The Godfather and Toy Story are therefore ruled out of comparison. Is this the longest series of films that has managed to keep the same cast, the same quality of story telling intrigue and excitement. Many of us were hugely disappointed with the Star Wars Prequels, The Xmen series is shaping up nicely but will the recent prequel lead to more?
What do you think? Best film series ever?

YES! HARRY POTTER IS THE BEST! :D
You're forgetting Carry On...
I'm struggling to think of many other film series that keep a core cast, to compare. James Bond has probably been the greatest film series ever, with its ability to re-invent around a jealously-guarded set of key features -Bond's character, girls, gadgets, cars, mission, catchphrases. You could say M, Q and Moneypenny have been a core cast, but apart from these supporting characters, even the central role changes hands every few films. If Pixar make a couple more Toy Storys will you accept it as a series, which it kind of is? I liked Twilight 1 but the series doesn't even hold a candle to Harry Potter. Pirates of the Caribbean stultified itself by becoming the Jack Sparrow show. Umm...Muppets? Star Trek? Friday the 13th? Nope, you're right, Harry Potter is the only one which has sustained the quality, surpassed its early potential and actually got better over a sustained time. Remarkable. Only a series adapted from novels could do this.
