Oxford Adoption Sunday Pilot

Today was our pilot of Adoption Sunday – an initiative to encourage churches to get more involved with fostering and adoption. An early morning radio interview with BBC Oxford put the Adoption Sunday at the top of the hourly news bulletin. Then it was off to Brasenose College, Oxford Univerity to pick up 8 volunteer undergraduates who helped us inflate 440 balloons – one for each of the children in care in Oxfordshire. The kind people at Oxford Community Church helped us to connect in with their service distributing prayer cards that were made in co-operation with PACT a local adoption charity. In the service we heard from an adoptive family in the church and also a powerful poem from a man who grew up in care and then we showed the EA adoption video. The local press turned up with a photographer.

thank you very helpful Oxford Uni student volunteers

was hoping we might end up with flying chairs…

or flying students

apparently the video went down well

balloons were a great way to engage the whole family in praying for kids in care

Even the clean up was kind of fun…

thank you to the Thame Party shop for their help

Looks like you had an amazing time Krish. It was too late to get a service organised at my home church as the service had already been planned to be an international service. I was asked, however, to do intercessions focussing on Adoption Sunday and the EA adoption video was used afterwards. When our daughter legally becomes ours we are planing to havea belated adoption sunday service. The service pack youcreated will be very useful when planing that service. Thank you for everything you do to promote adoption and fostering. You are a great inspiration.
